An Interview with Amy Kennel

As I walk into Amy’s office, I’m struck with how everything is set up for her clients.  The fidget toys, the hand-made gadgets to pick apart when nervous, the arts and crafts, puzzles, the furniture… I feel welcome and accepted already.  As Amy sits across from me, I feel her steady and unassuming presence.  As she begins to describe her journey to counseling and LWPC, I start to understand what I’m seeing better.

Amy started her clinical journey in High School with art.  Eventually she pursued art therapy, but over time found it wasn’t broad enough to address all the clinical needs she was seeing with her clients.  She expanded her training to include EMDR, IFS and DBT, among other approaches.  She often focuses her work on “ensuring the unconscious can become conscious, while also supporting the development of empathy and courage.”  Amy has a remarkable ability to intuitively understand her clients’ needs, using deep insight to create meaningful connections that foster growth and healing.
